Considering a slightly crazy game board project

A while ago I built a model of the Iraqi Ministry of Justice building that resides at the intersection of Haifa St and Nasir St. in downtown Baghdad.  If I don’t say so myself, it’s a pretty impressive model.  I also noticed that the building across the street, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is a mirror image of the same building with the exception of a bit of the “tail” cut off.  So making that building would be a piece of cake since I have the MoJ building already designed in CAD … just mirror the drawing and chop off the bit that’s missing on the other building.  Once I thought about doing this second building, I got the crazy idea of doing a set of game boards around the area where these buildings live.  I figured out that I could do four boards at 20″ x 20″ (my standard board size) and take in this area very nicely.  I’ll have to think about this … these two buildings would the centerpiece of the project, but there would also need to be a few hundred smaller buildings around the neighborhood,,, and that’s where the real work would be.

The first photo shows the area being considered, shown in 4 20″ x 20″ boards.  The next two show my existing Iraqi MoJ building model.

After my mini GHQ rant

Just hours after ranting about the lack of US anti-aircraft artillery available from GHQ I started working on designing a Patriot Launcher in 285th scale.  Here is the beginning of the drawing.

I’m going to play around with this design very slowly, hoping that GHQ beats me to it.  They have a surprise November release coming that some people predict will be a Patriot or a THAAD … here’s hoping they are right.

Working on some Anti-Aircraft Artillery, and a little GHQ rant

I love GHQ Micro Armor so much that I made a blog about it, I don’t think my devotion to the company and their products can be argued  … but I swear, if they don’t come out with some modern US anti-aircraft artillery (Patriot or THAAD) pretty soon I’m going to scream.

Our choices for modern US air defense are pretty limited, you’ve got the M163 Vulcan which is far from modern and you’ve got the M998 Avenger (pictured below)…. and I think that’s it unless I’m forgetting something.  On the Soviet side you have 3 different ZSU variants and 6 different SA-x missile systems and Tunguska and the ZPU-4.  That’s 10 different AAA choices for the Soviets and 2 for the US.

Anyways, here are some Avengers I just finished and some soviet stuff in the background that I’m still working on.

Game Board Racks Done

Way back in February I made a post showing the racks I was working on at the time for storing and transporting my game boards ( Post here: http://gamecraftminiatures.com/tac2game/microarmor/blog/?p=403 )

Tonight I put the finishing touches on them.  They are covered with camouflage tarp material and the ends are attached with velcro and fold up to allow you to get the boards in and out.
