Working on some Anti-Aircraft Artillery, and a little GHQ rant

I love GHQ Micro Armor so much that I made a blog about it, I don’t think my devotion to the company and their products can be argued  … but I swear, if they don’t come out with some modern US anti-aircraft artillery (Patriot or THAAD) pretty soon I’m going to scream.

Our choices for modern US air defense are pretty limited, you’ve got the M163 Vulcan which is far from modern and you’ve got the M998 Avenger (pictured below)…. and I think that’s it unless I’m forgetting something.  On the Soviet side you have 3 different ZSU variants and 6 different SA-x missile systems and Tunguska and the ZPU-4.  That’s 10 different AAA choices for the Soviets and 2 for the US.

Anyways, here are some Avengers I just finished and some soviet stuff in the background that I’m still working on.

Installing Rare Earth Magnets in Micro Armor

This is a great way to keep your turrets from falling off and still maintaining the ability to rotate the turrets.

Step 1: Cut off the turret peg

Step 1: Cut off the turret peg

Step 2: Drill a hole for the magnet. The hold should be drilled just deep enough so that the drill bit is just starting to drill at it's specified diameter (just beyond the angled tip)

Step 3: Glue the magnet in the turret

Step 3: Glue the magnet in the turret

Step 4: Open up the hole in the hull to the same size at the turret magnet if necessary (in this M1 it was not necessary) and then glue the larger hull magnet inside the hull

Progress on the USS Wasp

Originally when I started this project I thought I was going to modify the 1/350th scale model that I bought … but it seems I’m going the scratchbuild route and just using the kit for reference and scaling everything up and rebuilding everything from scratch.

The flight deck is coming along and the main superstructure has taken it’s basic shape.  Now to add details to the superstructure.
