A little more work on the airport

A bit more work on the sand texture.  This is the second layer of the process, it’s still wet in this photo and looks a little shiny.  Also a lot more color blending will be done in future steps…. but this gives you an idea which direction it’s going.

The real airport in Baghdad is just pure sand everywhere but I think I’m going to add a little bit of vegetation in a few areas just to break up line of sight to make gaming a little more interesting.

Work continues on Baghdad Int’l Airport

The northwest corner of Baghdad International Airport in 1/285th scale. Work in progress.  Tonight I just started the application of the desert sand texture, this is a process that takes several applications before it’s done, this is just the first base layer.

This last photo shows the area being modeled. The satellite image on the left shows the area that I’m modeling. I’ve taken a little bit of artistic license especially in ground scale, I tried to keep the widths of all runways and taxiways real close to scale but the distances between things is seriously reduced.

Afghan Mountain Boards – Day 3

Applied the pigments and ground covering tonight. Some of the ground covering will blow off once everything is dry so there will not be as much ground covering as you see in these photos. Tomorrow I add some trees and start adding a few Afghan Hovels into the hillsides.

That block of white foam is attached to the bottom of the air conditioner because if it wasn’t there you could really slam you head into it and end up with a nasty gash in your forehead and blood all over your face…. don’t ask me how I know that, just trust me.
